Phillip Capital

Glenn provides specialized advisory services for those investors seeking entry into the Cleantech and Sustainable Responsible Investment (SRI) field. His 9 years of experience in the financial services and advisory industry supports his dedicated and passionate approach to identifying early stage companies on the verge of commercialization as well as more mature companies with established SRI principles of business.

Investing in Cleantech companies are a chance for the investment community to drive the development of society towards one which balances the competing principles of profitability and sustainability. Its easy to get excited about investing in a company that has the potential to ensure water security or eliminate greenhouse gases. But its not so easy to ensure that it can be done in an efficient and cost effective fashion, with a credible roadmap to commercialization and a management skill-set to execute the plan successfully. We aim to connect the two.

The principals of SRI do not just provide for an investment filter guided by ethics but also serves as a criteria for identifying outperforming companies on the share market. Those companies which rate highly for environment, society and corporate governance are less prone to the risk of financial and public relations shocks. Shocks which can decimate a brand or destroy a business model.

Glenn is a member of the Ethical Investment Association and Rotary and offers all investors in SRI and Cleantech companies a 5%-10% rebate of brokerage costs to charity. Rotary members also have the option of allocating this rebate to their home club.

Dr. Timothy Finnigan

BioPower Systems Pty Ltd website
Dr. Timothy Finnigan
Chief Executive Officer
BioPower Systems Pty Ltd

Dr. Finnigan founded BioPower Systems in 2006, following years of experience working in the marine engineering and ocean energy industries.

Tim completed a PhD in Environmental Engineering in 1999 from the University of Western Australia in Perth, after previously earning his BASc in Engineering Physics and MASc in Civil Engineering in 1991 and 1994, respectively, from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

His early career included engineering roles with Triton Consultants and UMA Engineering in Canada. Within these firms he was involving in water resource management and coastal projects, where his responsibilities included field work, computational modelling of estuaries, harbours, coastal regions and rivers, plans for dredging and erosion, contract negotiation, proposals, reporting and client management. In 1992, while working at PAPRICAN in Vancouver, Tim invented a novel flow device, which was patented and developed into a product (Optest-FQA) that has been successfully commercialised and sold worldwide for the past 12 years. He later worked as a research associate with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology at the University of Hawaii, where he developed innovative techniques for evaluating the dissipation of tidal energy in the ocean.

In 2000, Tim provided expert consulting services to Blue Energy Ltd, a tidal energy technology company based in Canada. Towards the end of 2000, Tim joined the Sydney-based wave energy technology start-up, Energetech Australia (now called Oceanlinx), as Head of R&D. There he was responsible for the company’s research and development program, including technical development of a 500 kW demonstration unit for full scale ocean trials. Tim assumed the role of Technical Director for Energetech in 2003 and held the responsibility for all technical development within the company. During his tenure there, he secured a $1.25M R&D Start grant from AusIndustry and subsequently administered and managed compliance for the grant. With BioPower Systems, Tim has pioneered a new conceptual philosophy that overcomes technical barriers that many ocean energy developers are experiencing. Using biomimicry, he developed concepts that diverge conceptually from traditional marine engineering structures that are designed to stand firm and react against the forces of the ocean. The new concepts involve devices that are lightweight, pliable, and tend to move and respond with the forces of the ocean. In doing so, these devices are the first to avoid destructive ocean forces allowing, them to be constructed to far lower force tolerances which translates directly to lower capital costs. Tim invented the technologies that have emerged as the company’s core products; bioWAVE, bioSTREAM, bioBASE, and O-DRIVE.

As CEO of BioPower Systems, Tim developed the company’s branding, including company designs, graphics, and descriptions, and he developed the company business and financial plans based on his vision of the future for commercial ocean power systems. His forward thinking has facilitated early phase R&D and patent protection of the company’s technology, helped build the executive team, and established strategic partnerships critical to the company’s success.
